Joan E. Buchanan (Mazi)

Nov-26-2025

Of Grand Island. January 16, 1940-November 26, 2025. Wife of the late Philip K. Buchanan. Mother of Elizabeth (Michael) Allen and Philip P. (late Jennifer) Buchanan. Grandmother of Jeremy (Marie) Buchanan, Matthew (Kristin) Allen, Laura (Marcus) Rosten, Jefferson (Arden) Buchanan, Miles Allen, Jacob, Grace and Joseph Buchanan. Great-grandmother of Nora, Lucas, Isaac, Teddy, and Calvin. Daughter of the late Joseph and Mary Mazi. Joan blessed many over the years, not only with her presence but also with thoughtful homemade cards, delicious toffee, and random acts of kindness. Often working quietly behind the scenes, Joan made a significant impact on those around her. She contributed time, talent, and treasure over the years to St. Timothy Lutheran Church, Buchanan-Eichel Homes, Inc., PTA and anyone who needed her help. She truly was the wind beneath our wings. Friends may call Saturday from 2-3 at St. Timothy Lutheran Church, 1453 Staley Rd., Grand Island where a Funeral service will be held at 3 PM. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. Timothy Lutheran Church. Share condolences at Kaiserfuneral.com.

Bath, I am saddened to see this notice of your wonderful mother's death! Your dad and my husband, John Mellon, were the best of friends and Phil was in our wedding. We had so much fun with your mom and dad through the years as young marrieds! Joanne and I remained "Christmas card friends "after both Phil and John died. I always looked to her magnificent, handmade cards! Her comments sent to me via Facebook demonstrated that she was a woman of great faith. I pray that today you can feel the loving arms of Jesus during your grief.

Dear Family, In this sorrowful time I would like to extend to you my heartfelt condolences. Joan was such a loving person who always had a smile. She worked diligently at UDS and it was a priviledge having her as one of my supervisors. I felt blessed working with her and enjoying all the delicious treats she did with love. May our Lord comfort you and your loved ones.
